UV Air Sterilization

Working Principle of UVC LED Air Disinfection
UVC LED air disinfection uses ultraviolet rays (UVC) of a specific wavelength to kill and destroy harmful substances such as microorganisms in the air.
Destroy the DNA and RNA of microorganisms: The wavelength of ultraviolet rays emitted by UVC LED is usually between 200 and 280nm. Ultraviolet rays in this band can directly act on the genetic materials DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) and RNA (ribonucleic acid) of microorganisms (such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, etc.). When UVC irradiates microorganisms, it will cause chemical bonds in DNA and RNA molecules to break or form structural changes such as pyrimidine dimers, thereby interfering with the transmission and replication of genetic information of microorganisms. Microorganisms cannot metabolize, grow and reproduce normally, and eventually lose their activity, achieving the purpose of disinfection.
Producing photochemical reactions: When UVC irradiates the air, it also triggers a series of photochemical reactions. For example, UVC can make oxygen molecules (O?) in the air absorb photon energy and excite to form ozone (O?). Ozone has strong oxidizing properties and can react with a variety of biological molecules in microbial cells, further destroying the cell structure and function of microorganisms and enhancing the air purification and disinfection effect. In addition, UVC may also cause water molecules in the air to undergo photolysis, producing active substances such as hydroxyl radicals (?OH) with bactericidal effects. These active substances can also react chemically with microorganisms to destroy their cell components and achieve the effect of disinfection and sterilization.
Destroying the protein structure of microorganisms: In addition to acting on genetic material, UVC can also directly act on the proteins of microorganisms. Protein is an important substance that performs various physiological functions in microbial cells. The energy of UVC can break the peptide chains of protein molecules and change the spatial structure, resulting in protein denaturation and inactivation.
Harmful Substances in the Air That Can Be Killed by UVC
UVC disinfection kills a variety of harmful substances in the air by destroying the DNA or RNA of microorganisms, as follows:

Bacteria: It can effectively kill common bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Candida albicans. These bacteria may attach to dust particles or droplets in the air. UVC irradiation can destroy their cell structure and genetic material, prevent their growth and reproduction, and thus achieve the purpose of disinfection and sterilization.
Virus: It has an inactivation effect on many viruses such as influenza virus, coronavirus, and adenovirus. UVC can change the nucleic acid structure of the virus, making it lose its ability to infect and replicate.
Fungi: Fungi such as Aspergillus, Penicillium, and Mucor and their spores can also be killed by UVC. Fungal spores in the air are prone to allergic reactions and respiratory infections. UVC disinfection helps reduce the number of fungi in the air and reduce related health risks.
